Cynefin
Our Cynefin – Our Curriculum
The new Curriculum for Wales gives schools the chance to design learning that reflects the needs of their pupils. At Townhill Community School, this means creating a curriculum that reflects our local community and helps pupils understand their place in Wales and the wider world.
We have carefully thought about what is important to our pupils and how this links to their cynefin. Cynefin means the place where we feel we belong – where faces, places and surroundings feel familiar and safe. This is important because it helps pupils make meaningful connections between their learning and everyday life. Our local area and community provide many opportunities for pupils to explore their cynefin through real-life experiences.
Through our curriculum, pupils are supported to become confident, creative learners who are ready for life and work. They are encouraged to be responsible citizens by learning about local, national and global issues, both past and present. Pupils are also supported to think about how they can make a positive difference within their own community, in Wales and beyond.
Pupils are given safe opportunities to talk, share ideas and reflect on different beliefs, values and social issues. They explore the natural world locally and further afield, helping them develop a strong sense of place and well-being. These experiences support pupils to grow into healthy, confident individuals who feel valued and ready to take their place in society.
